Daniel M. Hilt appeals the trial court's division of property in a dissolution action. He challenges (1) the trial court's characterization and division of 10 acres of real property acquired in his name alone 5 months after the parties began cohabiting, but 3 1/2 years before they were married; and (2) the trial court's characterization and valuation of his unliquidated personal injury claim that arose during the marriage. We uphold the trial court's findings and conclusions with respect to the 10 acres, but because of a change in the law with respect to the characterization of one spouse's claim for personal injuries, and because we find insufficient evidence to support the court's valuation of the unliquidated personal injury claim, we reverse and remand.
